Book review: A Clash Of Kings
a review of the second book in the book series A song of ice and fire, or as you probably know it, Game Of Thrones.
SPOILERSSSS!!!!!!!!
I started reading the first game of thrones book a few months back, when I was traveling in Asia. It didn’t take long before I finished it, maybe a few weeks, which is good for a book with around 900 pages in it. It was good, really good. And I was skeptical if the second book in the series would live up to the first one. Cuz the first one had me reading every single day just because I needed to know what was going to happen. But I can officially tell you that it outdid the first book by miles. I have never read a book that made me so speechless. This is easily the best book I have ever laid my eyes on.
I have never written a book review before so I don’t really know what i’m supposed to write lol. So ummm, let me just tell you the scenes that made me love this book a little too much.
Let’s start with the few chapters that made me stop reading for about an hour because I had to sit by myself for a moment and just think about what had just happened. It’s the end of the book when Stannis marches on Kings Landing where the Lannisters has the power. Kings Landing is the capital of the seven kingdoms in Game Of Thrones, and Stannis decided that he wanted the power, and marched with his entire army against the city. I will not tell you how it ended, because that’s a big spoiler, but I will tell you that we get to follow Tyrion and Sansa throughout the fight, and I have never read anything that intense before. Fire burning, people dying, heads flying, knights switching sides. It made me speechless.
The second moment that literally made my jaw drop, and this is a big spoiler so skip this if you don’t want to know. It’s when they tell us that Theon Greyjoy has killed both Bran and Rickon. It came from nowhere and so sudden that I didn’t know if I believed it or not. I decided to not believe it, just because of the significance they (especially bran) had on the story so far. And well, I was right. The last chapter in the book we follow Bran again, and it turns out they where hiding beneath the city, and wasn’t the too dead kids that where put up on spikes over the castle gate. It didn’t make sense to kill them off so soon into the series, but it still made me question my life for about half the book.
I would say these are the two things that stood out in the book, and absolutely made me question everything and everyone. But I will also mention a few more things I liked that happened throughout the book.
Robb Stark gets crowned king of the north
Melisandre, the women who uses dark magic. The first time it was truly mentioned in the book
Tyrion gets named hand of the king in Kings Landing, and outplays everyone that tries to stop him
Jon Snow finally goes beyond the wall in the north, a place that we don’t know a lot about
We get to see more of Daenerys dragons, which i’m so excited to see more of
Arya playing games in Harrenhal
That’s six more huge parts of the book that I couldn’t stop reading about when it was mentioned. George R.R Martin did not take it easy on the second book, he absolutely went all out. And I love that in books. I don’t like when books are too slow, things should happen all the time in order to keep me interested throughout the entire book. And I can tell you, this book has everything — all the time.
